flowers in early Fall--the sepals and petals are indistinguishable in the genus Eriogonum, and thus they are called tepals.  How many tepals are present here? leaf in late Spring--even though the venation looks parallel and their are six tepals and six stamens, this is not a monocot!  It is in fact a dicot.
leaf underside--in this species, the leaf undersides are woolly basal rosette of leaves in Spring--these leaves are relatively long when compared to the leaves of other Eriogonum species, giving rise to the epithet longifolium.

habit in late Spring--these flowering stalks are about two feet tall leaf in early Fall

growing inflorescence with flower buds in early June
