habit - annual herb found in the understory of open woods

leaves - what is the shape and arrangement of these leaves?

When crushed these leaves smell sweet

stem - appears distinctly white. when you look closer ..... ... the stem is covered with a woolly pubescence that makes the stem appear white.
the lower (abaxial) surface of the leaf is also densely pubescent  heads
 
heads - the phyllaries of the involucre are scarious (membranous) ... all the white structures you are seeing are actually the phyllaries. Only disc flowers are present ... they are just visible as the dark region in the very center of the heads
