Our One and Only Spaceship © Eric R. Pianka "We have forgotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do." -- Barbara Ward In a prescient essay, recognizing that growth cannot continue indefinitely in a world of finite resources, famed economist Kenneth E. Boulding likened planet Earth to a spaceship (Boulding 1966). Others, including (Ward 1966, 1972) and Buckminster Fuller (1968) have extended this metaphor. Hardin (1974) modified the spaceship metaphor to the challenge of living on a lifeboat. Anthropocentrism "Intelligent" Design?
